The knives specifically commemorate V-E Day, April 1945 and V-J day, August 1945. 60 years is a long time and most of those who buy this knife will have been born long after those dates. The knife is the standard combat knife of WWII for the Navy and USMC. Following WWII many were issued to the Army as well. The 7" blade is 1095 high carbon tool steel at 56-58 Rc. with a black epoxy powder coating. The banner and PEACE, V-E Day, V-J Day, End of WWII are etched through the coating and printed gold.
